Our swim clinics are instructional in nature and teach the skills necessary for fun, safe experiences in the water. Individual progression is accelerated due to our small classes (as few as four students per instructor) and the personal attention of our experienced aquatic staff. Both drills and interactive games are utilized to practice the swimming skills learned. All clinics are open to both members and nonmembers.
Adult & Youth Private Lessons One hour and one-half hour sessions available. Swim Clinics Parent & Infant Exploration Emphasis is on becoming comfortable in the water and developing underwater reactions for children under 3 years of age (children should be 6 to 36 months old). Playtime for Polliwogs Two- and 3-year-olds will have a blast in the pool during this aquatic adventure. Appropriate for kids who are ready to explore the water without a parent, the class is centered around songs and games that prepare children for future learn-to-swim programs. Fish 1 Emphasizes becoming comfortable and having fun in the pool. The class is suitable for beginner swimmers who are comfortable entering the water without a parent. Children must have reached four years of age or have the instructor's permission for this class. Fish 2 This class introduces swimmers to the deep end, and covers water safety, floating and submerging. Fish 3 The skills in Fish 2 are built upon as swimmers learn to bob, kick and glide, and complete at least 10 yards of the paddle stroke. Fish 4 Elementary back stroke, front and back crawl are the staples of this clinic. Swimmers also practice jumping into deep water and treading water. Fish 5 The front crawl and back stroke techniques are refined as swimmers work on their endurance. Breast stroke and the scissors kick are introduced. Fish 6 Swimmers continue to refine previously learned strokes, while the dolphin kick and racing dives are introduced. This clinic is an excellent preparation for competitive swimming, and can be taken in conjunction with the Swim Team workout. Swim Team Workouts This workout is held throughout the indoor season and is designed for kids who have reached at least the Fish 5 level and wish to swim competitively. The workouts emphasize technique and endurance. All four competitive strokes will be covered, as well as racing turns. These workouts are wonderful training for the Liberty Lightning swim team. Programs Swim Team: Liberty Lightning Liberty Athletic Club hosts a fun-filled and competitive summer swim team each season for ages 5 to 17 years. The team competes in the Washtenaw Interclub Swim Conference (WISC) against various local swim clubs. The team offers a program of competitive swimming open to all member age group children who wish to participate. Our mission is to provide the realization of swimming potential in each age group child in a constructive atmosphere of instruction and encouragement. Our focus is on individual improvement in each child, development of teamwork, and good sportsmanship. The season is eight weeks in length during the months of June and July. A programming fee is associated with the team to cover coaching, practices and meets. A nominal fee to the parent association is also required to handle social events throughout the season. Splash Bash This is a three-hour swim party supervised by a certified lifeguard. It is geared toward 6- to 11-year-olds, but younger children who are good swimmers may attend with the permission of the supervisor. Pool games are played and pizza is served. All swimmers who attend must be able to swim one length of the pool without assistance; in addition, all swimmers must have a current emergency form on file. Gym & Swim Gym activities such as basketball, obstacle courses and parachute games are followed by activities in the pool during this action-packed hour. The 3-5 and 6-8 year old age groups will meet at the same time, but play separately. All children should arrive wearing swimwear under their gym attire, and each must be potty trained. Be sure to review our policies related to these programs. |
